Growing Regions

Our wines come from premium vineyard sites strategically located near the cool marine influences of the sun filled California coast. With each new vintage, we offer wines of consistent flavor and exceptional quality from vineyards perfectly suited to that particular varietal.

Napa Valley
Paso Robles
Sonoma Coast
Central Coast

We love to produce wines from Napa Valley, mainly because the appellation offers such a diverse microclimate within this fairly small American Viticultural Area (AVA). Only 30 miles long and 15 miles wide, the temperatures in Napa vineyards vary by up to 15 degrees north to south with the vines receiving cool afternoon breezes from the San Pablo Bay. As you can imagine, we are able to produce wines with tremendous flavors, aromas and complexities. Today, we produce a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Napa Valley Red Blend.

The Carneros AVA includes parts of Napa and Sonoma counties and sits north of the San Pablo Bay. Cool fog and bay breezes make for a cooler and more moderate climate than northern Napa and Sonoma. This climate creates a longer growing season perfect for our Pinot Noir; lending crisp acidity, tight structure and spicy berry fruit to this delicious wine.

The Paso Robles AVA is located in San Luis Obispo County half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco along California’s Central Coast. With day-to-night temperature swings greater than any other appellation in California, Paso Robles is a unique wine region with distinct microclimates, diverse soils and a long growing season. These aspects provide optimal growing conditions for producing exceptional wines. A long growing season of warm days and cool evenings give rise to vibrantly ripened fruit with dynamic flavor profiles.

Established in 1987, the Sonoma Coast AVA consists of over 13,000 acres planted to Pinot Noir, stretching from Mendocino county line in the north to San Pablo Bay in the south.  Acclaimed areas such as Russian River, Sonoma Carneros, Chalk Hill, and Green Valley AVA make up the region’s notable diversity.  Wine writer Robert Parker Jr. describes the Sonoma Coast AVA as the region "...where world class Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays are being made that are every bit as complex and complete as the greatest wines of France."

The potential of the Sonoma Coast to produce wines of exceptional complexity, expressing their true varietal and terroir characteristics is extremely rewarding. Direct, daily influence from the Pacific Ocean defines the Sonoma Coast appellation.  Many of the AVA’s vineyards are planted high on ridges just a few miles inland. The vineyards lie above the fog that moves in to blanket lower elevations in the afternoon, producing idyllic growing conditions.

The name itself should give away our main reason for producing wines from this region. The Central Coast stretches 250 miles along the California coast line from San Francisco County to Santa Barbara County. This region complements our winemaking philosophy beautifully; to produce wines from premium vineyard sites strategically located near the cool marine influences. We chose this appellation to produce both our Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. When you try our these wines, you’ll understand why we selected the Central Coast.

We source our Oregon fruit from carefully selected vineyards in the Willamette Valley and Umpqua Valley Appellations in Oregon. The Willamette Valley of Oregon stretches from the Columbia River in the north to just south of our former hometown of Eugene; and from the Oregon Coast Range in the west to the Cascade Mountains in the east. It is the largest AVA in the state with a cool, moist climate renowned worldwide for its Pinot Noir. The Umpqua Valley AVA sits south of the Willamette Valley, between the Coast Range to the West and Cascade Mountains to the east. With a diverse climate and complex topography, the Umpqua Valley is known for successful growth of both cool and warm grape varietals and winegrowing history dates back to the 1880’s.
